The African Students for Interfaith Tolerance (ASFIT) participated in the 2026 Cadet Corps and Red Cross Society Handing Over Ceremony held on 30 May 2026 at Walewale Senior High Technical School in the North East Region of Ghana.
The event brought together students, staff, members of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), and representatives from various Ghanaian security services, including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, and Ghana National Fire Service.
The ceremony marked the official transfer of leadership responsibilities from the outgoing Cadet Corps executives to a newly sworn-in leadership team. It also provided an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the outgoing corps while preparing the incoming leaders to serve with dedication and integrity.
Throughout the event, representatives of the security services delivered inspiring messages centered on the importance of discipline, responsibility, and service. They encouraged the newly inducted cadet leaders to uphold high standards of conduct and demonstrate commitment in the discharge of their responsibilities both within the school and in their future endeavours.
Addressing participants, an officer of the Ghana National Fire Service highlighted the importance of fire safety awareness in schools, institutions, organizations, and homes. The officer emphasized the need for adequate fire prevention measures, including the installation of fire extinguishers and regular safety education, to protect lives and property.
On behalf of ASFIT’s Executive Director, Mr. Sumani Sahidle Kawuneni, ASFIT’s Head of Programmes and a proud alumnus of Walewale Senior High Technical School, delivered a keynote address on the theme, “Being Agents of Positive Change.”
In his remarks, he challenged students to move beyond merely preparing for change or dreaming about change and instead become active agents of transformation within their communities. He encouraged them to embrace leadership, responsibility, and service, while reminding them of the many opportunities available to them through education, volunteerism, and civic engagement.
The event was further enlivened by impressive drill displays from both the outgoing and incoming Cadet Corps. Their performances demonstrated the discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills acquired through training and served as a symbolic transition from one generation of student leaders to the next.
ASFIT commends the management of Walewale Senior High Technical School, the Cadet Corps leadership, and all stakeholders for organizing a successful ceremony and for their continued commitment to nurturing disciplined, responsible, and service-oriented young leaders.
As an organization dedicated to empowering young people for peace, leadership, and community development, ASFIT remains committed to supporting initiatives that inspire youth to become positive agents of change in their schools and communities.
