ASFIT participates in the 2nd CSO-UN Dialogue on Peacebuilding in New York

The second CSO-UN Dialogue on Peacebuilding took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, United States of America, from 12th to 13th December. This event brought together a diverse group of civil society stakeholders from across the globe. ASFIT participated in this important Dialogue at the UN, represented by our Executive Director, Mr. Issah Toha Shamsoo.

The dialogue was co-chaired by the UN Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) and Interpeace, and convenes a diverse civil society actors in a Dialogue focusing on thematic priorities leading up to the 2025 Review of the UN Peacebuilding Architecture, with conflict prevention as the overarching theme and three sub-themes – financing for peacebuilding, meaningful civil society inclusion, and Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS) –viewed through the lens of prevention.

In her remarks, Ms. Awa Dabo, Deputy Head of the UN Peacebuilding Support Office (PBSO), underscored the Dialogue’s significance as a platform for strengthening collective action in addressing global peace and security challenges. With women making up over 50% of participants and close to 20% being youth, the Dialogue demonstrated the need for deeper inclusion of civil society, stronger localisation of peacebuilding efforts, and greater trust-building at the global, national, and local levels.
